Key Points
In Week 34 (August 22–28, 2022), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.
Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups have declined for the sixth consecutive week (2,227 vs. 2,562 visits, a decrease of 13% in Week 34 vs. 23% in Week 33). However, this decline is observed among adults (-16%, or 349 visits), while visits among children have stabilized (+4%, or 14 visits). The overall activity level and the proportion of hospitalizations following visits across all age groups remain stable. At the regional level, emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 are stable or declining in all regions.
Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 864,838 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Most other indicators are stable or declining. A few increases are observed, mainly in moderate to low patient volumes. All ages: an increase in visits for hyperthermia/heatstroke (+52%, or +29 visits). Among children: an increase in visits for asthma (+13%, or +74 visits) and trauma (+5%, or +1,055 visits) among those under 15, and for urinary tract infections among those under 2 (+23%, or +54 visits). Among adults: an increase in visits for cardiac decompensation among those aged 75 and older (+8%, or +88 visits) and for malaise among those aged 15–74 (+7%, or +428 visits). Finally, visits for suicide attempts were slightly higher among children under 15 (+17%, or +17 visits) and adults aged 75 and older (+18%, or +30 visits).
