Key Points
In Week 34 (August 18–24, 2025), compared to the previous week, the number of emergency department visits and hospitalizations following those visits decreased across all age groups, particularly among children under two years of age (-7%, or 1,145 fewer visits, and -12%, or 273 fewer hospitalizations).
An increase in emergency department visits was observed for abdominal pain among children under two years of age (+19%, or +113 visits) and those aged 2–14 (+6%, or +56 visits). Among those aged 75 and older, visits for gastroenteritis also rose slightly (+5%, or +12 visits).
Among respiratory conditions, visits for asthma were up among those aged 2–14 (+16%, or +69 visits) and down among those under 2 years old (-21%, or -29 visits). Visits for coughs were slightly higher among those aged 15–74 (+5%, or 24 more visits), as were visits for COVID-19 among adults, particularly those aged 75 and older (+18%, or 37 more visits).
Among adults, there was an increase in visits for chest pain (+10%, or +1,083 visits), for neurological conditions (+9%, or +775 visits), and for stroke among those aged 75 and older (+9%, or +125 visits).
Finally, there was an increase in visits due to suicidal behavior among those under 15 years of age (+23%, or +20 visits).
