Summary

In Week 13 (March 25–31, 2019), emergency department visits rose slightly among 2- to 14-year-olds (up 5%, or 3,451 visits), while remaining stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.

Over the past week, an increase in visits was observed: - among children and adults, for asthma (up 12%, or 158 visits, among 2- to 14-year-olds only, and up 43%, or 402 visits); - among children aged 2–14, for chickenpox (+33%, or +89 visits), conjunctivitis (+13%, or +33 visits), and general malaise (+8%, or +43 visits); - among adults, for allergies (+8%, or +118 visits), isolated fever (+6%, or +59 visits), and dehydration (+21%, or +42 visits) exclusively among those aged 75 and older.

Among the 10 most common conditions, there was an increase in visits - in children under 2 years of age, for urinary tract infections (+19%) and skin conditions (+14%); - among children aged 2–14, for gastroenteritis (+9%) and trauma (+7%); - among children (2–14 years) and adults (15–74 years), for ENT infections (+6%).
