Summary

In Week 15 (April 9–15, 2018), all-cause emergency department visits decreased among children (–5%, or 4,824 fewer visits) and remained stable among adults. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.

Visits across all age groups for all seasonal winter illnesses were down, including for gastroenteritis and ENT conditions. Visits related to non-specific indicators are stable, with the exception of asthma among 2- to 14-year-olds (+10%, or +121 visits) and 15- to 74-year-olds (+19%, or +198 visits). There was also an increase in visits for general malaise among children (+6%) as well as in hospitalizations following visits (+24%).

Variations in the most common conditions are stable or even declining among both children and adults.
