Summary
In week 14 of 2017 (April 3–9), emergency room visits and hospitalizations for all causes were down slightly by 6% among children and remained stable among adults.
Visits for seasonal illnesses were mostly stable or declining across all age groups, with the exception of visits for fever alone, which rose slightly (+3%) among children aged 2–14, and for allergies, which rose by 11% among adults. The proportion of cases involving allergies among all coded cases in this age group is slightly higher than in the previous two years.
Among the most frequently seen conditions in emergency departments, there continues to be an increase in visits for conjunctivitis (+9%) and skin problems (+13%) among children under 2 years of age. Among adults, a 13% increase in visits related to alcohol is observed among those aged 15–74. No significant changes were observed among children aged 2–14 and adults aged 75 and older.
