Summary
In Week 14 (April 2–8, 2018), all-cause activity increased by 4.5% among children (+4,055 visits) and by 4% among those aged 15–74 (+9,355 visits), but decreased slightly among those aged 75 and older (-2%). Hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.
Among seasonal conditions, there continues to be an increase in visits for ENT conditions among children and adults (+6%, or +499 visits, and +13%, or +427 visits, respectively). Visits are also on the rise for gastroenteritis among adults (+8%, or +106 visits) and for pneumonia among children (+8%, or 39 visits). The past week was also marked by an increase across all age groups in indicators common to both winter and spring: allergies (+20% (+152 visits) among children and +14.5% (+212 visits) among adults), asthma attacks (+9% (+139 visits) among children and +36% (+289 visits) among adults), and conjunctivitis (+31% (+130 visits) among children and +13.5% (+135 visits) among those aged 15–74). An increase in visits for general malaise (+11%) was also noted among children under 2 years of age.
Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits for skin and subcutaneous infections among 2- to 14-year-olds (+21.3%, or +105 visits). The most common conditions among adults remained largely stable.
