Higher rates of suicide risk among sexual minorities.
The hypothesis that homophobia is a risk factor for suicidal behavior provides the strongest explanation for the higher prevalence of suicide attempts among gay and bisexual populations. The phenomena of exclusion, contempt, and stigmatization can indeed lead to a loss of self-esteem and confidence in the future and in others, as indicated in a publication by INPES, which draws notably on the international literature.
