Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Prevalence and Use of Healthcare Services. Santé publique France Health Barometer: Results of the 2024 Edition

In 2024, 6.3% of adults aged 18 to 79 and 5.9% of employed adults aged 18 to 64 had experienced generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in the past 12 months. Women, young adults, and people in precarious situations or who are socially isolated are the most affected. Nearly 30% of people affected by GAD in 2024 did not seek any mental health care, with an even higher proportion among men (39.2%). Employees and intermediate-level professionals are the socio-professional categories most affected by GAD. Among the category comprising farmers, artisans, merchants, and business owners, nearly one in two people affected by a TAG did not seek mental health care. There are few regional disparities; however, residents of Réunion have a higher annual prevalence of TAG than those in other regions.
