Epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori infection in France in 2020: surveillance data from the CNR Campylobacter and Helicobacter

The National Reference Center for Campylobacter and Helicobacter (CNRCH) works with a network of local and national correspondents. H. pylori testing activity at the CNRCH continued to grow in 2020, thanks in particular to the recruitment of new correspondents. The year 2020 confirmed the stabilization of primary resistance to macrolides and fluoroquinolones. Rare strains resistant to amoxicillin or rifampicin were identified in 2020. Our data demonstrate the value of combining culture-based testing for this infection with molecular detection of the bacterium and mutations associated with macrolide resistance. Our participation in a French surveillance protocol and a European surveillance network allows us to compare our internal CNR data with data obtained at the national and European levels. The year 2020 was marked by strong cooperation from our correspondents in providing us with clinical information associated with the submission of gastric biopsies.
