Epidemiological surveillance in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Update as of February 10, 2021.

Key Points

COVID-19

  • At the regional level: regional testing, incidence, and positivity rates remain stable but continue to exceed national rates;

  • At the departmental level, Alpes-Maritimes remains the hardest-hit department in the region, followed by Bouches-du-Rhône, then Var;

  • increase in ICU admissions (and other critical care) and general hospitalizations for COVID (active cases);

  • Decrease in the number of hospitalized deaths, which remains high;

  • Emergency department activity for suspected COVID-19 remains stable;

  • SOS Médecins consultation activity for suspected COVID cases is slightly down;

  • The impact remains significant in social and medico-social establishments (ESMS);

  • slight decrease in the number of clusters reported outside of ESMS.

Bronchiolitis

  • Emergency departments - Although there has been a slight increase in visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age over the past 3 weeks, the proportion of visits remains low.

  • SOS Médecins - The proportion of consultations for bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age remains low.

  • Virological surveillance - Since the start of surveillance, 23 RSV cases have been isolated by the Rénal network, including 11 in week 04 (data not available for the week analyzed).

Activity in emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics is lower than in previous years. This situation is likely due in large part to the implementation of Covid-19 prevention measures.

Flu

  • Emergency departments - Emergency department activity related to flu-like syndromes remains very low.

  • SOS Médecins - Activity at SOS Médecins clinics related to influenza-like illnesses remains very low.

  • Sentinelles Network - The incidence rate of influenza-like illnesses reported by the Sentinelles network in week 05, not yet consolidated, is 63 per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [18; 108]).

  • Virological surveillance - Since the start of surveillance, the Rénal network has isolated 1 type B virus, and doctors in the Sentinelles network have not isolated any influenza viruses (data not available for the week analyzed).

Gastroenteritis

  • Emergency departments - Emergency department activity related to gastroenteritis is stable compared to the previous week and remains low.

  • SOS Médecins - Activity at SOS Médecins clinics related to gastroenteritis is stable compared to the previous week and remains low.

  • Sentinelles Network - The incidence rate for acute diarrhea reported by the Sentinelles network in week 05, not yet consolidated, is 120 per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [49; 191]).

Activity in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins is lower than in previous years. This situation is likely due in large part to the preventive measures implemented against COVID-19.
