Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of November 8, 2016.

Over the past week in the region:

The number of SOS Médecins consultations for gastroenteritis decreased last week, remaining at the threshold level. This episode, most likely linked to the circulation of norovirus (affecting children and young adults, with vomiting being the predominant symptom), was primarily observed in SOS Médecins data.A slight increase in SOS Médecins consultations for bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age, just at the threshold level. In the pediatric emergency department at Nantes University Hospital, visits for bronchiolitis remain well below the threshold. A few rare isolates of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) have been reported by the virology laboratories at the Nantes and Angers University Hospitals in recent weeks. The All Saints’ Day holidays mark a transition period, following which the circulation of RSV—the cause of seasonal bronchiolitis outbreaks—will increase. The epidemic threshold is usually crossed starting in mid-November. There has been a resurgence of clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) and gastroenteritis (GE) in long-term care facilities, with 13 new ARI clusters and 9 new GE clusters since the beginning of October.
