Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of December 8, 2023.
Key points
Bronchiolitis
The bronchiolitis outbreak among children under 2 years of age (which began in Week 41) continues in the region, with high activity observed in Week 48 at emergency departments and SOS Médecins clinics amid ongoing circulation of RSV.
The rise in indicators was less pronounced in week 48 and could signal that the epidemic peak is passing in the coming weeks.
COVID-19
SOS Médecins calls, emergency department visits, and the incidence rate were on the rise in Week 48, though they remained at a moderate level.
The positivity rate was stable in Week 48 (as a reminder, since July 1, 2023, only PCR-confirmed cases have been reported).
Flu
The region was not in a flu epidemic phase in Week 48.
However, SOS Médecins calls for flu-like symptoms increased in week 48, while remaining at low levels.
Acute gastroenteritis
Healthcare utilization for acute gastroenteritis was at a low level in week 48.
Chikungunya, dengue, Zika
Since May 1, 2023, 119 imported cases of dengue and 1 imported case of chikungunya have been reported in the Pays de la Loire region.
The majority of dengue cases reported in the region were among travelers returning from the Caribbean, where a dengue epidemic is currently underway.
