Review and Outlook for the Epidemiological Surveillance Program on Musculoskeletal Disorders.
The pilot program for the epidemiological surveillance of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) developed in the Pays de la Loire region will soon celebrate its 10th anniversary. This program has significantly contributed to the measurement of this major occupational health issue, which until then had been based primarily on statistics regarding the recognition of occupational diseases; similarly, it has helped bring to light the role of occupational factors in their occurrence within the broader social debate. There are still avenues to explore to make this surveillance more efficient and more consistent at the national level. Furthermore, discussions are underway on how to translate epidemiological findings for government agencies, businesses, and the public so that they can apply them for prevention purposes. For the sustainable prevention of MSDs and the consideration of the disability situations of employees suffering from MSDs is an imperative of occupational health and public health, on which all stakeholders in occupational risk prevention must mobilize within the framework of a structured and coordinated policy.
