Malaria in Mayotte. 2024 Report.

Between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, 119 cases of malaria were reported in Mayotte. All of these cases were imported, with 82% originating from the Union of the Comoros.
Plasmodium falciparum is the predominant species, accounting for 97% of imported cases reported in Mayotte.
Among the cases reported in Mayotte in 2024, 33% required hospitalization, including 7 admitted to intensive care
No deaths were recorded.
Since the beginning of 2025 (data as of 03/25), 20 cases of malaria have been reported in Mayotte, including 19 imported cases and 1 under investigation.
No locally acquired malaria cases have been reported in Mayotte since July 2020, but there has been a gradual increase in the number of imported cases over the past four years, peaking in August 2024.
Mayotte has been in the malaria elimination phase since 2014. However, with the continued increase in imported cases in recent years, maintaining malaria control measures is essential to prevent a resurgence of transmission in Mayotte.
