Dengue Situation in Mayotte. Epidemiological Update as of July 23, 2014.
Analysis of the Epidemiological Situation
The number of biologically confirmed dengue cases in Mayotte has been declining for the past two weeks. During week 29 (July 14–20, 2014), 8 new cases of dengue were confirmed by the laboratory at the Mayotte Hospital Center, compared with 20 cases the previous week. In total, since the beginning of the year, 500 cases of dengue have been identified on the island. The vast majority of cases with a known source of infection are locally acquired (100% in week 28). The positivity rate of PCR tests is also decreasing: 26% in week 29 compared to 31% the previous week. Despite the decline in surveillance indicators, viral circulation remains active on the island. Furthermore, the actual number of infected patients is likely much higher than the number of detected cases, given the proportion of asymptomatic cases and patients who have not undergone biological testing.
