Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of July 24, 2014.

Key Points

  • Vector-borne diseases: Since the start of enhanced surveillance for chikungunya and dengue, 81 reports of cases clinically suggestive of one or the other of these diseases have been received. Of these, 38 were confirmed as chikungunya and 7 as dengue. All of these cases contracted the disease while traveling in an endemic area (imported cases). To date, no locally acquired cases have been reported in our region.

  • Hospital and medical activity in the region: as observed every year at this time, emergency room visits are on the rise, as is the proportion of patients seen in the emergency room who do not usually reside in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Activity by SOS Médecins associations is higher than in previous years during comparable periods. The main diagnoses involve nasopharyngitis and tonsillitis.
