Health Monitoring in Occitanie. Bulletin of December 5, 2024.

Key points

Bronchiolitis

  • The Occitanie region was at S48 in its first week of the outbreak. Since the start of the outbreak appears to be following a pattern similar to that seen before the COVID-19 pandemic, we must be vigilant for a potential peak in cases around the Christmas holidays, a period that often puts strain on hospitals.

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • Activity for acute respiratory infections across all age groups was increasing in primary care and stable in hospitals. In primary care, these ARI visits were primarily due to acute bronchitis (52%) and flu-like syndromes (27%). In hospitals, emergency department visits for ARIs were primarily due to pneumonia (56%) and bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age (21%).

Acute Gastroenteritis

  • In the Occitanie region, gastroenteritis surveillance indicators were generally stable in week 48 compared to the previous week. However, there was a slight increase in emergency department visits among the youngest children, a trend to be confirmed next week.

Influenza and influenza-like illness

  • In week 48, the Occitanie region was not yet in an epidemic or pre-epidemic phase. However, there was an increase in syndromic indicators in primary care as well as virological indicators, while syndromic indicators in hospitals remained stable.
