Health Monitoring in Occitanie. Bulletin of December 12, 2024.

Key points

Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI)

  • Activity related to acute respiratory infections across all age groups was on the rise in primary care and in hospitals. In primary care, these ARI visits were primarily due to acute bronchitis (46% vs. 52% in S48) and influenza-like illnesses (39% vs. 27% in S48). In hospitals, emergency department visits for ARI were primarily due to pneumonia (50% vs. 56% in S48), bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age (23% vs. 21% in S48), and influenza-like illnesses (12% vs. 6% in S48).

Bronchiolitis

  • The Occitanie region was in its second week of the epidemic in Week 49. Increase in most indicators across France: 12 regions in epidemic status on the mainland, plus the French West Indies, French Guiana, and Mayotte.

Influenza and influenza-like illness

  • The Occitanie region entered S49 in the pre-epidemic phase. All syndromic and virological indicators are on the rise. Type A and B influenza viruses are currently circulating simultaneously. In mainland France, four regions were in an epidemic phase and eight in a pre-epidemic phase; only Corsica remained at the baseline level.

Gastroenteritis

  • In the Occitanie region, surveillance indicators for acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice and emergency care visits remained stable in week 49 compared to the previous week. The trend in these indicators is, for the moment, very similar to what was observed in previous seasons.

COVID-19

  • In Occitanie, Covid-19-related indicators were stable, except for an increase in virological indicators in community medical practice and in wastewater. Nationally, activity remains generally stable at low levels, though with an increase in wastewater.
