West Nile

  • As of September 11, 2023, 9 confirmed or probable locally acquired human cases have been identified (onset of symptoms between mid-July and mid-August): 8 in Gironde (residents of Bordeaux Métropole) and 1 in Charente-Maritime. Investigations are underway for 10 other individuals. In addition, 3 equine cases have been reported (2 in Gironde and 1 in Charente-Maritime) and 6 avian cases (Charente-Maritime).

Usutu

  • In early August 2023, two human cases of Usutu virus infection were identified in the region by the National Reference Center for Arboviruses. As of September 11, 2023, four locally acquired human cases residing in Gironde have been identified. Additionally, one avian case was reported by the National Reference Laboratory in Charente-Maritime in mid-August 2023.

Chikungunya, dengue, Zika

  • From May 1 to September 8, 2023, 74 imported cases of dengue and 4 imported cases of chikungunya were identified in the region (compared to 30 imported cases of dengue and 3 imported cases of chikungunya from May 1 to November 30, 2022). To limit the emergence of local transmission chains, 130 entomological surveys (mosquito searches) and 83 vector control treatments were carried out around cases residing in or passing through the region.
