Health Monitoring in the Normandy Region. Update as of March 4, 2022

Key Points

COVID-19

In Week 08, the decline in SARS-CoV-2 circulation continued in Normandy, with an incidence rate (IR) of 566 per 100,000 inhabitants (-24% compared to Week 1); however, epidemic levels remained high. The positivity rate was down to 22.1% (-5.9 percentage points), as was the testing rate (-3%). These rates were decreasing in all departments, except in Seine-Maritime, where the testing rate was rising. The proportion of D1 samples (strong suspicion of Omicron) was 96.4%. Several indicators of hospital activity (new hospitalizations, prevalence of hospitalized patients, emergency department activity) were again decreasing. However, the number of new admissions to critical care units, as well as the prevalence of patients in critical care units, were increasing at the regional level.

Influenza

In week 08, the number of emergency department visits was increasing and lower than the level observed in 2019–2020. Activity and the number of flu-related consultations at SOS Médecins were increasing and lower than those observed in 2019–2020.

Bronchiolitis

In week 08, emergency department visits for bronchiolitis were decreasing, and activity was low. The number of hospitalizations following an emergency department visit was decreasing (-32% compared to week 07). The number of SOS Médecins consultations for bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age was slightly decreasing, and activity was low.

Acute gastroenteritis

Activity for acute gastroenteritis (AGE) across all age groups in emergency departments was decreasing in week 08 and remained at a high level, exceeding that of the 2019–2020 season. The number of AGE consultations with SOS Médecins was increasing, with a high level of activity.
