Health Monitoring in Normandy. Bulletin of September 24, 2025.
Key Points
COVID-19
Covid-19 surveillance indicators continue to rise in Normandy (SOS Médecins calls, emergency room visits and hospitalizations, viral circulation) and have reached a moderate level.
All age groups are now affected. It is important to protect the most vulnerable by implementing preventive measures (including wearing a mask if symptoms are present) and ensuring up-to-date vaccinations (particularly among healthcare workers).
Bronchiolitis
For children under 1 year of age, indicators of healthcare utilization for bronchiolitis have begun to rise. However, according to data provided by hospital virology laboratories, RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is not yet circulating.
The immunization campaign for newborns against RSV infections began on September 1, 2025. Two strategies are possible: either vaccinating the pregnant woman to protect the newborn or infant under 6 months of age, or actively immunizing infants with a monoclonal antibody.
Back-to-School Asthma
Asthma surveillance indicators for people under 15 in urban areas (SOS Médecins) and in hospitals (emergency room visits) are stabilizing at high levels, similar to previous years.
This represents a resurgence of asthma among children linked to the start of the school year and exposure to respiratory viruses. For asthmatic children who are still asymptomatic, resuming maintenance therapy without delay is recommended.
