Health Surveillance in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of January 28, 2026.
Key points
Lower Respiratory Tract Infections
In hospitals: The rate of emergency department visits for acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRTIs) continued to decline, accounting for 4.4% of total activity (-0.9 percentage points). The number of emergency department visits for ALRTIs also continued to decrease, with 3,874 visits (-21%).
Influenza and influenza-like illness
Indicators for influenza-like illness were down across all age groups in hospitals. Consequently, the number of visits for care and hospitalizations following emergency department visits decreased. The Île-de-France region remained on epidemic alert for the ninth consecutive week.
COVID-19
Emergency department visits: the number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 remained generally stable. A slight increase was observed among those under 15, while a slight decrease was noted among those 65 and older. Case numbers remained low.
SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: the overall downward trend in SARS-CoV-2 levels in wastewater continued in S04, although the situation remains heterogeneous (6 of the 7 wastewater treatment plants have interpretable results).
If these trends continue in the coming weeks, this would be the second consecutive winter season without a Covid-19 epidemic peak in Île-de-France.
Acute Gastroenteritis
The trend in data and the percentage of emergency room visits for gastroenteritis among children under one year of age is particularly volatile. It currently stands at an average of approximately 150 to 200 emergency room visits per day in Île-de-France for children under one year of age. The available data suggest the onset of an annual gastroenteritis epidemic.
