Health Surveillance in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of February 19, 2025.
Key Points
Flu-like Illnesses and Acute Respiratory Infections
Both in hospitals and in community settings, indicators of healthcare utilization for influenza-like illness were declining in the Île-de-France region across all age groups for the third consecutive week.
The distribution of influenza virus types and subtypes has not undergone any major changes in recent weeks.
Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE)
There has been a steady increase in emergency department visits for AGE across all age groups since Week 03 of 2025, with children under 15 being the most affected. The proportion of AGE-related visits among all coded visits was also rising, particularly among those under 15.
Similarly, an increase in hospitalizations across all age groups following emergency department visits was observed. It should be noted that 78.3% of hospitalizations involved children under 15.
The number of procedures for acute gastroenteritis (AG) across all age groups at SOS Médecins was also on the rise. Also worth noting is the increase in the proportion of consultations for AG among medical procedures coded at SOS Médecins. At SOS Médecins, consultations for AG among children under 15 accounted for 35.6% of all consultations.
The incidence rate for acute diarrhea consultations among sentinel physicians decreased from 81 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants in S06 to 67 consultations per 100,000 inhabitants in S07.
In S07, activity in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins for acute diarrhea was higher than the trends observed in 2024 during the same period of the year.
COVID-19
SOS Médecins: In S07, the number of cases involving suspected COVID-19 remained stable across all age groups. Case numbers remained low.
Emergency department visits: In S07, the number of visits for suspected COVID-19 remained stable across all age groups. Case numbers remained low.
Clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in long-term care facilities: The number of ARI clusters with a COVID-19 diagnosis reported by long-term care facilities (primarily nursing homes) remained low since late 2024. Most ARI clusters reported in long-term care facilities in recent weeks involved the influenza virus.
SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: Detection levels in wastewater continued to decline in S07.
No COVID-19 outbreak was detected despite low vaccination coverage (22% among those aged 65 and older and 7% among at-risk individuals under 65) in Île-de-France, possibly due to high population immunity. This is currently the first winter season (2024–2025) without a COVID-19 epidemic peak since the start of the pandemic.
