Health Surveillance in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of February 18, 2026.

Key points

Lower Respiratory Tract Infections

  • In hospitals: The rate of emergency department visits for acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRTIs) continued to decline, accounting for 2.9% of total activity (-0.3 percentage points). The number of emergency department visits for ALRTIs also continued to decrease, with 2,073 visits (-12.8%).

  • In the community: At SOS Médecins, the number of procedures also declined, with 1,432 procedures (-16.4%). The activity rate for lower respiratory tract infections decreased to 11.6% (-1.9 percentage points).

Influenza and Influenza-Like Illness

  • Indicators for influenza-like illnesses were sharply down across all age groups, both in private practice and in hospitals. In emergency departments, visits for influenza-like illnesses accounted for less than 1% of activity. In SOS Médecins data, the share of activity for influenza-like illnesses still accounted for 5% of procedures, despite a sharp decrease.

  • The Île-de-France region had been in the post-epidemic phase for 3 weeks.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins: the number of cases for suspected COVID-19 decreased in Week 7. This trend reflected a decrease among those under 15 years of age. The indicator remained stable in other age groups. Case numbers remained low.

  • Emergency room visits: The number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 decreased in Week 7. This trend reflected, in particular, a decrease among those aged 65 and older. The indicator was stable in other age groups. Case numbers remained low.

  • SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: the overall upward trend in SARS-CoV-2 levels in wastewater continued in S07, although the situation remained heterogeneous (6 of the 7 wastewater treatment plants have interpretable results).

Acute gastroenteritis

  • In general, trends in data and the percentage of emergency department visits for gastroenteritis among children under one year of age are particularly volatile. The number of visits for acute gastroenteritis at the start of this year was similar to that of previous years for the same period among children under 1 year of age. Activity related to acute gastroenteritis in emergency departments among children under 1 year of age was approximately 6% and remained within the same range of fluctuations as in previous years.

  • The trend among children under 15 was also highly variable, accounting for between 4% and 5% of daily visits to emergency departments in the Paris region over the past few weeks.
