West Nile virus infections
Three confirmed indigenous human cases of WNV infection were detected in Île-de-France in the departments of Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-d’Oise. This marks the first identification of local vector-borne transmission of WNV in Île-de-France. Additionally, two equine cases testing positive for WNV were identified in Yvelines. As part of the EMa-Tigre project, the CNR Arbovirus detected the presence of WNV in mosquito excreta collected in Paris’s 13th arrondissement as well as in the Val-de-Marne department. These findings suggest more widespread circulation of the virus in Île-de-France.
COVID-19
The number of emergency room visits and the number of procedures performed by SOS Médecins for suspected COVID-19 were slightly higher.
Back-to-school asthma
Low activity in emergency departments and at SOS Médecins related to asthma.
Between weeks 34 and 35, the number of emergency room visits among children under 15 rose from 171 to 417. At SOS Médecins, the upward trend was less pronounced, rising from 32 cases to 44 between weeks 34 and 35.
Poisoning
Several sources report an increase in the Île-de-France region in reported cases of poisoning from the product SNIPER 1000 EC DDVP® (dichlorvos), a liquid insecticide banned in France since 2013 due to its danger to health and the environment. This product, which is available illegally in some stores, is extremely toxic if inhaled or if it comes into contact with the skin, and can be fatal if ingested (organophosphate poisoning and cholinergic syndrome).
