Health Monitoring in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of January 21, 2026.

Key points

Lower Respiratory Tract Infections

  • In hospitals: The rate of emergency department visits for acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRTIs) continued to decline, accounting for 5.3% of total activity (-1.2 percentage points). The number of emergency department visits for ALRTIs also continued to decrease, with 3,874 visits (-15%).

  • In the community: At SOS Médecins, the number of procedures also declined, with 3,004 procedures (-10%). The activity rate for lower respiratory tract infections decreased to 22% (-3.8 percentage points)

Influenza and Influenza-Like Illness

  • With the exception of those under 15 years of age in private practice, influenza indicators were down across all age groups, both in private practice and in hospitals. Consequently, the number of healthcare visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits decreased.

  • The Île-de-France region remained on epidemic alert for the eighth consecutive week.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins: The number of cases involving suspected COVID-19 remained stable across all age groups. Case numbers remained low. Emergency department visits: The number of emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 increased among those under 15, while it remained stable in other age groups. Case numbers remained low.

  • SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: following the increase observed in S02, an overall downward trend in the level of SARS-CoV-2 circulation in wastewater was observed in S03, although the situation remains heterogeneous (6 of the 7 wastewater treatment plants have interpretable results).

  • If these trends continue in the coming weeks, this would be the second consecutive winter season without a Covid-19 epidemic peak in Île-de-France.

Acute gastroenteritis

  • Visits to emergency departments for gastroenteritis are within the usual range, accounting for less than 2% of visits in Week 3 across all age groups.

  • At SOS Médecins, activity related to acute gastroenteritis is also similar to the previous two years. It has increased in recent weeks, accounting for 7.1% of activity in S02 and 9.6% in S03, across all age groups.
