Health Monitoring in the Île-de-France Region. Bulletin of January 14, 2026.

Key points

Lower Respiratory Tract Infections

  • In hospitals: The rate of emergency department visits for acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRTIs) continued to decline, accounting for 6.4% of total activity (-2.3 percentage points). The number of emergency department visits for ALRTIs also continued to decrease, with 4,381 visits (-31%).

  • In the community: At SOS Médecins, the number of procedures also declined, with 3,327 procedures (-15%). The activity rate for lower respiratory tract infections decreased by 26% (-1.7 percentage points)

Bronchiolitis

  • Activity related to bronchiolitis was sharply down and continued a downward trend that had begun several weeks earlier. Virology: RSV detection rates remained stable in community and hospital laboratories.

  • Epidemic level: The continued decline in activity brought indicators closer to baseline levels, leading to the end of the post-epidemic phase for the Île-de-France region.

Influenza and influenza-like illness

  • With the exception of children under 15 in private practice, influenza indicators were declining across all age groups, both in private practice and in hospitals. Consequently, the number of medical visits and hospitalizations following emergency room visits decreased.

  • While a potential resurgence of the epidemic in the coming weeks cannot be ruled out, the peak of the 2025–2026 season was reached in week 52.

  • The Île-de-France region remained on epidemic alert for the seventh consecutive week.

COVID-19

  • SOS Médecins: The number of cases involving suspected COVID-19 decreased among those aged 15 and older, while it remained stable among those under 15. Case numbers remained low.

  • Emergency room visits: The number of emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 decreased among those aged 15 and older, while it remained stable among those under 15. Case numbers remained low.

  • SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: In S02, a slight overall upward trend in SARS-CoV-2 circulation in wastewater was observed in Île-de-France, although the situation remains heterogeneous (6 of the 7 wastewater treatment plants have interpretable results). Increases in concentrations in wastewater generally precede observed increases in human cases, without prejudging their magnitude.
