COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of November 25, 2021

Key Points

In week 46 in Île-de-France, virological and hospital indicators showed an increase, confirming the sharp rise in SARS-CoV-2 circulation observed in previous weeks.

  • The crude incidence rate among residents of Île-de-France rose for the third consecutive week, reaching 190 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (vs. 102 per 100,000 in Week 45). This increase was observed across all departments in Île-de-France and in all age groups. Paris had the highest incidence rate among all Île-de-France departments, at 266 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • The rise in positivity rates continued among symptomatic individuals, confirming the resurgence of viral circulation.

  • The increase in incidence was associated with a rise in both the testing rate and the positivity rate across all departments in the Île-de-France region and in all age groups.

  • SI-VIC data showed an increase in new hospitalizations and new ICU admissions, while reported new deaths declined. It should be noted that data consolidation delays and low death counts lead to potentially significant weekly fluctuations.

  • The situation in long-term care facilities remained, at this stage, generally favorable.

  • Vaccination coverage with at least one dose was 76.2%, and 73.8% for the full course. The rate of increase in vaccination coverage remained low.

Given the high and rapidly rising viral circulation, vaccinating all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with strict adherence to other preventive measures.
