COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of November 19, 2021

Key Points

  • In week 45, virological and hospital indicators confirmed the increase in SARS-CoV-2 circulation observed in previous weeks.

  • The crude incidence rate among residents of Île-de-France rose for the second consecutive week: it stood at 102 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (vs. 84 per 100,000 in Week 44). The adjusted regional incidence rate—which accounts for the decrease in testing due to the November 11 holiday—reached 117 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • The regional testing rate was on the rise in the region and in most departments of the Île-de-France region.

  • The positivity rate increased slightly in Week 45 across the region and in most departments of the Île-de-France region. The rise in positivity also continued among symptomatic individuals.

  • SIVIC data showed an increase in new hospitalizations and new in-hospital deaths. New admissions to intensive care units showed a decrease. It should be noted that Week 45 included a holiday. These figures may therefore be revised upward when the data is consolidated in the coming days.

  • In Week 45 in Île-de-France, vaccination coverage with at least one dose of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine was 76.2%, and 73.8% for the full vaccination series. The rate of increase in vaccination coverage remained low.

  • Given the high and rising viral circulation, vaccinating all eligible individuals remains essential and must be combined with strict adherence to other preventive measures.
