COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for the Île-de-France Region as of March 25, 2021
Key Points
In Week 11 (March 15–21, 2021), epidemiological indicators of SARS-CoV-2 circulation in Île-de-France, already at high levels, continued to rise and reached—and in some cases exceeded—the values observed during the peak of the second wave of the epidemic.
The incidence rate in Île-de-France, which reached 560 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, was rising sharply. This increase affected all age groups and all departments in the region. The positivity rate continued to rise moderately.
The upward trend in epidemiological indicators was particularly felt by the hospital system, which had already been under severe strain in the region for several weeks. The rates of hospitalizations and admissions to intensive care units for COVID-19 in Île-de-France—which continued to rise—were the highest in mainland France.
Although single-dose vaccination coverage in Île-de-France continues to rise, in line with the vaccination strategy, the regional epidemiological situation is likely to worsen further in the coming weeks. Maintaining the systematic adoption of preventive measures remains essential in the current context.
