Share: A prenatal consultation offered to all expectant fathers in Montreuil, Seine-Saint-Denis, 2021–2022

Introduction – In France, as elsewhere, healthy men have less contact with the healthcare system than women. Gynecological and obstetric care provides women with opportunities for preventive checkups that have no equivalent for men, including when couples are expecting a child. The objective of the Partage project (Prevention, access to rights, catch-up vaccination, treatment of conditions during pregnancy and for the child) was to assess the level and determinants of acceptance of a dedicated prenatal preventive consultation for expectant fathers. Materials and Methods – Between January 2021 and April 2022, all fathers of unborn children at the Montreuil Hospital (Seine-Saint-Denis) were offered a prenatal preventive consultation, screening, access to rights, catch-up vaccinations, and referral to primary care, subject to their partner’s prior consent to share their contact information. Results – 3,038 women (80% of eligible women) provided contact information that allowed their partners to be reached; 44% of eligible men (N=3,038) and 53% of men with whom actual contact was established (N=2,516) attended a prenatal consultation for men.
