Public Health Surveillance in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Epidemiological Update, February 27, 2013.

Key Points

Influenza: Epidemic activity is beginning to decline in France after 10 weeks of the outbreak, but remains sustained. The three influenza viruses—A(H1N1) pdm09, A(H3N2), and B—continue to co-circulate. This co-circulation likely explains the prolonged duration and high magnitude of this outbreak. In the region, according to doctors in the unified network, the incidence of flu-like illness is declining sharply (705 cases per 105,000 people compared to 1,107 cases per 105,000 people in week 2013-07). Surveillance indicators from emergency departments remain stable at a high level, while those from SOS Médecins associations have been declining for two weeks now, though they remain above the regional epidemic threshold.

Acute gastroenteritis: Nationally, the incidence of acute gastroenteritis has been below the epidemic threshold for four weeks. In Nord-Pas-de-Calais, surveillance indicators in emergency departments are generally declining, as are consultations at SOS Médecins, falling below the regional epidemic threshold.
