Health Surveillance in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Epidemiological Update, March 14, 2013.

Key Points

Flu: In France, after 12 weeks above the epidemic threshold, flu activity has been declining sharply since mid-February. In the region, according to doctors in the unified network, the incidence of flu-like illnesses continues the decline that began three weeks ago (230 cases per 105 residents, compared to 1,084 cases per 105 residents at the peak of the epidemic in week 2013-07); however, the epidemic threshold has been exceeded for the 13th consecutive week. Surveillance indicators from emergency departments and SOS Médecins associations are also down this week (respectively, -27% and -57% in the number of consultations for influenza-like illnesses).

Acute gastroenteritis: Nationally, the incidence of acute gastroenteritis cases has been below the epidemic threshold for over a month. Conversely, in Nord-Pas-de-Calais, surveillance indicators from SOS Médecins associations have been rising and have been slightly above the regional epidemic threshold for two consecutive weeks, and hospital surveillance shows an increase over the past three weeks.
