Dengue
Over the past two weeks, dengue activity remained low throughout French Guiana. In 2025, no epidemic outbreaks were recorded. For the year as a whole, 318 cases of dengue were biologically confirmed, averaging 6 cases per week. Of the 205 cases serotyped by the CNR for arboviruses, 98% were DENV2.
Malaria
The number of malaria cases was moderate and on the rise over the past two weeks, with 16 cases recorded, including 12 during the last week of December (versus a total of 10 in S50 and S51). These 16 cases were caused by P. vivax, including 3 relapses.
In total, 182 malaria cases were reported in 2025 (provisional data). After an increase in November with 23 cases recorded compared to 10 in October, the number of cases stabilized in December (25 cases).
During the last two months of 2025, infections occurred primarily in creeks/rivers and in gold panning areas.
Acute respiratory infections
Flu-like illness: Over the past two weeks, the flu epidemic has intensified, gradually spreading from west to east. The circulating subtypes identified were A(H1N1)pdm09 and A(H3N2).
Bronchiolitis and COVID-19: Activity related to bronchiolitis and SARS-CoV-2 was low across the entire country.
Diarrhea
Diarrhea-related activity was low in primary care centers, community hospitals, and the emergency departments of the three hospitals.
