Key Points

Dengue

  • The dengue epidemic has been over in the region since the end of August 2024. The number of confirmed cases remained stable at a low level in S04 and S05.

  • Although the dengue epidemic has ended, vigilance regarding arboviral diseases must be maintained.

  • Biological confirmation testing remains essential for any dengue-like syndrome.

Malaria

  • The number of malaria cases diagnosed in the healthcare system over the past two weeks was low and declining, with 11 cases of P. vivax (6 in S04 and 5 in S05), 3 of which were relapses.

  • Since the beginning of the year, new infections in the region have occurred primarily in gold mining areas in the municipality of Kourou and in urban/suburban areas in St. Georges.

  • In total, 35 cases were recorded in January, compared to 25 in December 2024.

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • The seasonal flu epidemic continues and is on the rise, with the peak of the epidemic not yet reached.

Diarrhea

  • Activity has decreased slightly in isolated municipalities (CDPS and local hospitals) and has increased along the coast over the past four weeks (data from the Cayenne and Saint Laurent du Maroni hospitals).
