Dengue in French Guiana. Update as of March 28, 2024.
Key Points
Following a sharp increase in dengue virus circulation in French Guiana during January, circulation stabilized at a very high level for four weeks before beginning to decline in early March. The weekly number of clinically suggestive cases has decreased by 40% since the first week of March.
In S12, dengue virus circulation remains stable across the territory, with regional variations depending on the sector. In most sectors, the trend is toward stability or even a decline in circulation, except in the sectors of Cayenne Island and Maroni, where a slight increase is observed.
The DENV-2 serotype was the most commonly identified in S12 (52% DENV-2 and 48% DENV-3 among serotyped samples); it was predominant on the island of Cayenne and in the West Coast and Maroni sectors.
Since January 2023, 17,485 clinically suspected dengue cases, seen in general practice or at health centers (CDPS), and 10,303 confirmed cases have been recorded, including 10,568 and 7,515, respectively, in 2024.
The characteristics of 227 hospitalized patients for whom information is available are described on page 4. These data are currently being consolidated.
