Dengue in French Guiana. Update as of April 11, 2024.
Key Points
Following a sharp increase in dengue virus circulation in French Guiana during January, circulation stabilized at a very high level for four weeks before beginning to decline in early March. The weekly number of clinically suggestive cases has been cut in half since the first week of March.
In week 14, dengue virus circulation is declining across the entire territory. Vigilance remains essential as the rainy season resumes.
Serotype DENV-2 was the most commonly identified serotype in week 14 (76% DENV-2 and 24% DENV-3 among serotyped samples); it is the predominant serotype in all sectors. Serotype DENV-1, which is currently circulating in Brazil, was identified in Week 13 in the Oyapock sector.
Since January 2023, 18,554 clinically suspected dengue cases, seen in general practice or at health centers (CDPS), and 10,609 confirmed cases have been recorded, including 11,638 and 7,821, respectively, in 2024.
The characteristics of 227 hospitalized patients for whom information is available are described on page 4 (data as of March 24, 2024). These data are currently being consolidated.
