COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of February 10, 2022
Key Points
Since the peak was reached in early January in French Guiana, the epidemiological situation has been improving significantly at a steady pace over the past three weeks: the number of cases has halved over the past three weeks. The incidence stands at 321 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the effective R value is stable and relatively low (0.42).
This decline is evident across all regions, including Oyapock, where a decrease has been observed this week following a rise in infections. Cases have been cut in half in the main regions (Cayenne Island, Savanes, and the Western Coast). Indicators for outpatient and inpatient care are also decreasing, reflecting the decline in infections observed since early January.
In fact, emergency room visits and routine hospitalizations have been cut in half, as they were last week, and fewer than 10 people have been admitted to intensive care over the past 7 days. After a week of stability, the weekly death toll is declining for the first time.
Vaccination coverage is slowly increasing across the region: 39% of people aged 12 and older have received a full primary vaccination series, and 15% have received their booster dose.
