COVID-19: Epidemiological Update for French Guiana as of December 1, 2021
Key Points
The decline in the COVID-19 epidemic continued last week, with an incidence rate of 89 cases per 100,000 residents, although this represents a slight increase over the past week.
This incidence rate is not associated with a significant impact on hospital admissions. The incidence rates in the Cayenne Island and Savanes sectors were above 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and remain higher than the average in French Guiana, influenced by significant disparities between municipalities. The rate for the Western Coast was 34 per 100,000 inhabitants, a very low level.
The effective R value stood at 1.01. The regional positivity rate remained below the 5% alert threshold, accompanied by a slight increase in the testing rate.
Hospitalizations across all departments were slightly up, with 28 hospitalizations in S47. Four ICU admissions and four deaths were recorded last week.
The new Omicron variant has not yet been detected in French Guiana; the Delta variant remains the dominant strain in the territory.
Vaccination coverage (1st and 2nd doses) was slowly increasing to 35.8% for a full course and 40.8% for 1 dose (among those aged 12 and older).
Coverage for the booster (third dose) stood at 9.2% among the elderly (65 and older), with a significantly faster rate than for the first and second doses.
