Epidemiological surveillance in the Alsace region. Update as of October 22, 2015.
Key Points
Since Week 37, the number of bronchiolitis diagnoses in children under two years of age has been low. In week 42, the SOS Médecins associations in Mulhouse and Strasbourg made 1 and 6 diagnoses of bronchiolitis, respectively. This condition accounts for 1.1% of cases among children under two years of age for the Mulhouse association and 3.3% for the Strasbourg association, which is in line with the values typically observed at this time of year.
Compared to week 41, the number of weekly diagnoses of gastroenteritis and diarrhea varied little in week 42. It was 146 for the SOS Médecins Strasbourg association and 74 for the Mulhouse association. These conditions accounted for 9% and 10% of the associations’ total activity in week 42. These figures fall within the fluctuations typically observed during this season.
According to available data, no unusual increase in mortality has been observed in Alsace over the past few weeks. Since the time lag in reporting death data exceeds 7 days, data for week 42 are currently being consolidated.
