Epidemiological Surveillance in the Alsace Region. Update as of July 30, 2015.

Key Facts

  • As of July 30, 2015, 230 cases of measles had been reported to the Alsace Regional Health Agency (ARS). The low number and spacing of cases seem to indicate the end of the outbreak. This episode will be closed on August 8, 2015, if no further cases occur by then.

  • Activity at the SOS Médecins allergy clinics remains within the fluctuations typically observed at this time of year. In week 30, the proportion of activity related to allergies was just under 2% for SOS Médecins Strasbourg (a decrease compared to previous weeks) and just over 2% for SOS Médecins Mulhouse (stable compared to previous weeks).

  • Asthma-related activity for both SOS Médecins associations remains low. The number of recorded diagnoses (7 for Strasbourg and 2 for Mulhouse) accounted for approximately 0.5% of each association’s activity.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk from pollen is low in both departments of Alsace.

  • In week 30, the number of weekly diagnoses of heat-related conditions decreased slightly compared to week 29 for SOS Médecins Strasbourg and increased slightly for SOS Médecins Mulhouse. Thus, 25 diagnoses of dehydration and heatstroke were recorded for the SOS Médecins Strasbourg association (representing 2% of total diagnoses). For the Mulhouse association, 16 diagnoses were made, representing 3% of the total diagnoses.

  • Following excess mortality observed during weeks 27 and 28, the figures observed in week 29 are within expected ranges. These figures are currently being finalized. A comprehensive report on mortality linked to the heatwave that swept across France from June 29 to July 8 will be available by the end of the summer.
