Reportable Diseases in the Centre-Val de Loire Region. 2024 Report.

Key Points

In France, 38 notifiable diseases (NDs) are subject to surveillance necessary for the implementation and evaluation of public health policy. At the regional level, the Regional Health Agency is responsible for management measures related to reports, and the regional unit of Santé publique France provides real-time monitoring of these diseases to characterize their epidemiological trends and offer its expertise for complex investigations.

This bulletin focuses on the MDOs reported in the Centre-Val de Loire region in 2024, with six of them undergoing detailed analysis: listeriosis, invasive meningococcal disease, leptospirosis, hepatitis A, foodborne outbreaks, and Legionnaires’ disease.
In the region, the year 2024 marked a new surge in surveillance, with 750 reports (excluding COVID-19 and lead poisoning in minors) submitted to the ARS—the highest figure since 2010. Notable trends observed that year included:

  • an increase in several conditions, including invasive meningococcal infections (22 cases, mostly serogroup Y), outbreaks of foodborne illness (56 incidents), hepatitis A (29 cases), and dengue fever (197 imported cases, mainly from the Caribbean);

  • a cluster of botulism cases in Indre-et-Loire (5 cases) linked to the consumption of homemade pesto;

  • 22 cases of leptospirosis identified during this first year of mandatory reporting for this disease.
