Key Points

Influenza and influenza-like illnessEpidemic activity. Another sharp increase in SOS Médecins indicators (+56%), accounting for 9% of coded diagnoses. Number of emergency room visits on the rise, exceeding levels observed in previous years. Viral circulation increasing according to data from the virology laboratory at Brest University Hospital (positivity rate = 22% out of 131 samples).High activity in primary care: incidence rate of influenza-like illness estimated at 198 per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [108, 288], unconsolidated Sentinelles data).

Severe cases of influenza: Since week 44 of 2016, 7 severe cases of influenza have been admitted to intensive care in Brittany. The patients were aged 32 to 82 years. They were all infected with a type A virus and had at least one risk factor targeted by vaccination.

Gastroenteritis: Epidemic activity. Continued increase in SOS Médecins consultations, with activity significantly higher than in previous years (same period), accounting for 8.5% of coded diagnoses across all age groups. Increase in emergency department visits primarily affecting children under 5 years of age; activity across all age groups remains above seasonal averages.Moderate activity in primary care: incidence rate of acute diarrhea estimated at 160 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI [74, 246], unconsolidated Sentinelles data). Circulation of the Norovirus.

Bronchiolitis (children under 2 years of age): The epidemic continues, in an upward phase. Increase in emergency department visits (+20%), accounting for 21% of diagnoses in children under 2 years of age. Viral circulation on the rise according to data from the virology laboratories at the Brest University Hospital (positivity rate = 15% out of 55 samples).
