Health Monitoring in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region. Update as of January 21, 2022.
Key Points
COVID-19
In Week 02 (W02), SARS-CoV-2 continues to circulate at very high levels in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, but the increase is smaller than in the previous week. The hospital admission trend is more favorable, likely due to vaccination coverage and the milder nature of the Omicron variant.
Bronchiolitis
During W02 (January 10–16, 2022), in hospital settings, according to data reported by emergency departments in the Oscour® network, the epidemic trend for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age continued to decline in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. In Week 02, 231 emergency department visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age were recorded, representing 9.2% of visits in this age group (10.3% in Week 01). Of these visits, 81 were followed by hospitalization, resulting in a hospitalization rate of 35.1% for this diagnosis. Hospitalizations for bronchiolitis accounted for 21.9% of all hospitalizations among children under 2 years of age in S02, down from S01 (27.0% in S01).
Influenza
During Week 2, in inpatient care, according to data reported by emergency departments in the Oscour® network, visits across all age groups for a diagnosis of influenza/influenza-like illness increased slightly compared to the previous week in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (Figure 15). In Week 2, 185 emergency department visits for influenza/influenza-like illness were recorded, representing 0.5% of all visits across all age groups (0.4% in Week 1). Among these visits, 109 cases (58.9% vs. 40.5% in Week 01) were under 15 years of age, and 11 cases (5.9% vs. 11.9% in Week 02) were 65 years of age or older. Of the 185 visits, 24 were followed by hospitalization, representing a hospitalization rate of 13.0% for this diagnosis (10.1% for those under 15 and 63.6% for those aged 65 and older). Hospitalizations for influenza/influenza-like illness accounted for 0.3% of all hospitalizations in Week 02, stable compared to the previous week (0.3% in Week 01).
