CoviPrev: Epidemiological Update for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. March 2021
Key Points
Adoption of protective measures and behaviors
The consistent wearing of masks in public spaces gradually became widespread, reaching 87% in the region during the second lockdown. A decline in adherence to physical distancing recommendations was observed from the lifting of the first lockdown (mid-May) through mid-September 2020.
This relaxation of precautionary behaviors likely contributed to the resurgence of viral circulation during the summer of 2020, which led to the onset of the second wave of the pandemic beginning in October 2020.
Lower adherence to preventive measures (hygiene and physical distancing) is found among men, people under 35, and those with low literacy levels.
Mental Health
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant and lasting impact on the health of the population of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Lockdown periods may have contributed to exacerbating certain disorders (e.g., depression) and reducing others (e.g., sleep disorders).
High at the start of the first lockdown, the prevalence of anxiety disorders decreased and stabilized between 15% and 20%. During the second lockdown, the prevalence of depressive disorders increased to 21.7%. Sleep disorders, despite a significant decrease, remain at a high level (>60%).
Anxiety, depressive, and sleep disorders are associated with being in a difficult financial situation, being female, being under 35 years of age, and having a history of psychological disorders.
