Dengue Fever in the Caribbean. Update as of May 16, 2024.

Key points

Guadeloupe and Martinique

  • In Phase 4, Level 1 of the PSAGE* dengue alert system: confirmed epidemic.

A decrease in all surveillance indicators has been observed over the past four weeks (mid-April to mid-May) compared to the previous four weeks (mid-March to mid-April).

However, vigilance must be maintained and efforts to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito should even be stepped up, particularly in areas with high tourist potential. Indeed, between January 1 and April 30, 2024, 2,166 imported cases of dengue were recorded in mainland France; 82% had returned from a trip to Guadeloupe or Martinique.

Saint Barthélemy and Saint Martin

  • Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin are in Phase 1 of the PSAGE*: sporadic cases and isolated outbreaks with no epidemiological link(s).

Dengue circulation remains at low levels; the situation has returned to normal since mid-March 2024.

* Programs for surveillance, alert, and epidemic management.
