Bronchiolitis in the Caribbean. Surveillance Report 2024–2025.

  • In Guadeloupe, the bronchiolitis outbreak among children under 2 years of age lasted 11 weeks; it was half as long as previous outbreaks. However, it was more severe than the previous season, with 850 clinically suggestive cases, 395 emergency room visits (including 96 hospitalizations—a hospitalization rate of 24%), and an average hospital positivity rate for RSV of 30%.

  • In Martinique, the bronchiolitis outbreak among children under 2 years of age was shorter than in previous seasons, lasting 12 weeks, and was also more severe than the previous season, with 1,300 clinically suggestive cases, 313 emergency department visits, including 104 hospitalizations (33% hospitalization rate), and an average hospital positivity rate for RSV of 57%.

  • In Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, there was no bronchiolitis outbreak during the 2024–2025 season, although an increase in the number of clinically suggestive cases was observed in Saint Martin at the end of 2024, with no impact on hospital admissions. No bronchiolitis outbreaks have occurred in these territories since the COVID-19 pandemic.
