Summary of Changes in Parents’ Knowledge of Infant Feeding Between 2022 and 2023: Results of the DIValim Study
Improved knowledge: Between 2022 and 2023, there was a significant increase in the percentage of parents who were aware of the recommendations regarding the introduction of solid foods, particularly the inclusion of all food groups from the start of the process and the addition of fats. ; Confidence and applicability: Although the percentage of parents who were completely confident in their knowledge regarding weaning increased slightly, it remains very low. The perceived applicability of the recommendations also increased between 2022 and 2023. ; Social inequalities: Improvements in knowledge and certainty were more pronounced among parents of lower socioeconomic status, suggesting that social inequalities in parents’ dietary knowledge have not widened. ; Information sources: Parents who used health authority websites as a source of information on healthy eating, as well as those who had browsed the brochure, had better knowledge and more often reported a very high level of certainty regarding that knowledge. ; Target audience for future campaigns: In both 2022 and 2023, parents from lower socioeconomic backgrounds had lower levels of knowledge and were less likely to consider the recommendations applicable, compared to parents from higher socioeconomic backgrounds. It is therefore necessary to continue targeting them in future communication campaigns.
