Chikungunya, Dengue, and Zika in mainland France. Enhanced Surveillance Bulletin of July 9, 2025.

Key Points

Local cases

As of July 8, 2025, ten episodes of local transmission have been identified in mainland France:

  • 9 chikungunya outbreaks (1 to 12 cases per outbreak)

  • 1 dengue outbreak (1 case)

These total 26 cases and are located in the PACA, Corsica, Occitanie, and AuRA regions—which were already affected in previous years—and, for the first time, in the Grand Est and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions.

The first episode of local dengue transmission for 2025 has been identified in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Investigations and prevention and control measures are underway.

The number of transmission clusters illustrates the significant risk of local transmission of these viruses in mainland France. Additional cases are likely to be identified, including outside the usual transmission zones.

Santé publique France emphasizes the importance of reporting cases, which enables rapid intervention to limit transmission, as well as the importance of measures to protect against mosquito bites and control larval breeding sites.

Imported cases

From May 1, the start of enhanced surveillance, through July 8, 2025, the following were identified:

  • 552 imported cases of dengue

  • 761 imported cases of chikungunya

  • 1 imported case of Zika
