Ebola Virus – Epidemiological Update for West Africa as of December 1, 2014.
Highlights
The WHO reports a total of 16,907 cases (suspected, probable, and confirmed) and 5,993 deaths in the four affected countries in West Africa (Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Mali). This total is based on the WHO’s latest update from December 1, which covers only the total number of cases and deaths. The information in this Epidemiological Update on subnational trends is as of November 26 (the date of the WHO’s latest detailed publication).
In Mali, where local transmission has been reported for the past three weeks in the capital, Bamako, the toll stands at 8 cases and 6 deaths.
The three most affected countries (Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone) are reporting new cases distributed very unevenly across districts. At the national level, transmission remains most intense in Sierra Leone. In Liberia, the situation has been stable over the past 6 weeks following the decline observed from mid-September through mid-October. In Guinea, the number of new cases is stable.
Transmission in the capitals Monrovia and Freetown remains high, while it is declining in Conakry.
